Why I Cannot Find Time To Write

Try living with 38 animals and an elderly husband

Sunday

A quiet Sunday morning is a lovely time to begin editing one of my many drafts, fifteen of them to be precise.

A sick cat waylays my plan, decorating the living room floor and rugs for hours from his front and rear, requiring a constant mopping detail. Colorful commentary from my husband on the messy situation is not helpful.

Monday

Okay, Monday morning appears free. There are no appointments listed on our kitchen calendar, the sick cat appears to have recovered, and, is housecleaning necessary today?

Snow fell overnight, not enough for my husband to engage with the snowblower, but enough to shovel. Shoveling requires both of us as our driveway is 300 feet in total, dividing into two segments. The section leading to the back door is level, the one leading to the front door is uphill (our house faces away from the road). Tossing snow for hours is exhausting; naps follow as we are past our prime.

Tuesday and Wednesday

No time for Medium. Weekly chores such as grocery shopping, buying animal supplies and cursory housecleaning consume midweek. My husband loves to shop, but housekeeping chores, not so much…
