When I was young in the 40s and 50s war was not front and center in our everyday lives. We were post-war kids and foreign wars were far away. Life magazine, the evening news and the newspapers everyone read provided information and photographs but it wasn't immediate, it was after the fact, after the battle.
The Vietnam War was the start of war news being broadcast during the supper hour and on your commute to work. It was terrifying, it was live coverage, as the action unfolded. Now we are bombarded, saturated with 24/7 coverage.
The news upsets me and breaks my heart for the suffering civilians are enduring for a war they never wanted, and leaves me often feeling guilty for being able to turn off the TV and go about my day.
