NPR had a segment the other day discussing the use of AI by small regional newspapers that do not have the staff to attend all local events. AI searches databases for the basics of the selected topic -regional sports - and writes the stories. A human is deployed to flesh the stories out with details after phone calls to the teams involved. The result is stories essentially identical (repeated phrasing, descriptions) aside from scores and devoid of the human element that we all want as readers. The newspaper does not hide their use of AI as many do on Medium. However, without AI they will not be able to provide sports coverage at all.

It seems some writers on Medium cannot write without leaning on AI. I will not finish reading a story if I believe it is not a breathing person behind the words.
