In my experience, and it is limited to my family and my husband’s, it is the males who became the favorites and received the most attention and gifts. My brother was the baby with two sisters. We all spoiled him, and it was obvious he was the favorite of our parents. In my husband’s family, he was the oldest and his brother the baby. His two sisters were ignored. Perhaps it has something to do with males having the potential to carry on the family name, assuming they marry and reproduce.
